Practical Solutions from Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE)

 

Optimal patient care requires efficient access to comprehensive electronic health records (EHRs). The Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) initiative accelerates the adoption of information standards needed to support EHRs world-wide. More than 200 vendors have implemented and tested products based on IHE specifications.

 

A major contribution to the definition and the procurement of IT projects and solutions has been made by IHE through the cooperative development of use cases and technical specifications in the form of “technical frameworks” and “integration profiles”. Applications that support these specifications can be used to enhance communication within a hospital, a hospital group, a small or large community and on a global scale.

 

Parallel to Connectathon 2009 IHE Austria and the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Vienna will offer a workshop entitled “Sharing Clinical Documents and Integrating Workflow: Practical Solutions from Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE)". This important event in Vienna is being held during a week long interoperability testing session – the IHE-Europe Connectathon. During this week suppliers will be evaluated by international experts in proving that their software can interoperate with the software of at least three other suppliers, as defined by the IHE specifications (based on broadly accepted IT and Healthcare standards). A presentation and a visit to the Connectathon will be included in the workshop.

 

The workshop is specifically designed to inform the audience regarding the benefits of this efficient and cost effective implementation of technology for the enhancement of communication within healthcare in Austria and Europe.

 

Expected audience: CEOs, CIOs, Financial Directors, Clinical Directors, IT / ICT Directors and Managers as well as healthcare IT system vendor representatives. The meeting will be of significant interest to suppliers and those involved in planning the implementation of healthcare IT systems. It offers specific tracks for users and vendors.
